Firm recognized for Alliant Insurance Foundation Fellows Program in annual US Insurance Awards
IRVINE, CA — Alliant Insurance Services received the award for Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year at Business Insurance’s 2023 US Insurance Awards in New York. The US Insurance Awards recognize excellence, service, and innovation in the commercial insurance and risk management industry.
Alliant’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are focused on furthering development opportunities for under-represented professionals to create a more balanced and thoughtful workplace and industry. Through the Alliant Insurance Foundation, the firm’s charitable nonprofit organization, the DE&I team focuses on promoting equity and expanding access to opportunities in insurance for under-represented students.
“We firmly believe that diversity is not only the right thing to do, but it also enriches our company, employees, and clients,” said Lilian Vanvieldt, Alliant’s Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer. “That’s why we have committed ourselves and our organization to making the necessary investments to reach and exceed our goals. We strive to cultivate an environment where everyone, regardless of their background or identity, can thrive and contribute their unique perspectives and experiences.”
To support and further bolster the pipeline of under-represented talent in the industry, the Alliant Insurance Foundation has partnered with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to develop meaningful relationships. Through this partnership, Alliant Insurance Foundation Fellows, a first-of-its-kind, summer fellowship program was launched to provide racial and ethnic minority students with in-depth career experience. Through its carefully curated curriculum, weekly departmental rotations, 1:1 mentorship support, shadowing experiences, interactive application exercises, research projects, and introductions with senior leadership and clients, the program enables Fellows to emerge as developing leaders with specialized expertise. The Foundation raised more than $2 million in its first year to support DE&I efforts in the larger insurance industry.
The Alliant Fellows initiative, coupled with partnerships with identity-specific insurance organizations (Women in Insurance, National African American Insurance Association, Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies, etc.), enables Alliant to reach a broad range of communities through increased outreach and recruitment efforts. Investment in professional affinity organizations, combined with a commitment to creating inclusive job descriptions and standardizing hiring processes, all work to help increase accessibility to the insurance industry. This will result in an increase in diverse talent pools and job candidate slates, promoting diversity across the insurance industry at large.
The 2023 US Insurance Awards program highlights exceptional work by insurance professionals at companies across the commercial insurance industry—from retail brokers to TPAs, insurers, reinsurers and more. Recognizing that major achievements are seldom the effort of individuals working in isolation, the awards honor teams of professionals working on specific projects.
Finalists in 10 categories were selected by Business Insurance staff from 170 nominations. Winners were then chosen by a panel of risk managers who independently assessed each of the finalists. The awards program also raises funds to support the Business Insurance Scholarship. Profiles of the winners will appear in the September edition of Business Insurance.
