Alliant Cyber Secures $50 Million Cyber Insurance Program, Enhances Incident Preparedness for Large Public Transportation Authority

By Alliant Cyber / April 08, 2026

From social engineering attacks to ransomware, cyber threats impede the ability of transportation businesses to provide critical services to millions of riders on a daily basis. A single cyber attack can cause severe optional disruptions, safety hazards and significant financial losses, directly affecting organizations’ profitability.

At Alliant Cyber, our industry-leading specialists understand the unique risks transportation businesses face and how to strengthen risk management and cybersecurity insurance outcomes in today’s complex risk environment.

Our specialists recently transformed the risk management framework of a large public transportation authority, operating the largest transit network in North America. Learn more about the scalable insurance solutions and strategies Alliant Cyber implemented for this client, resulting in improved cybersecurity posture.

The Client and the Challenge: Mitigating Today’s Cyber Risks

A large public transportation authority responsible for transporting approximately six million riders daily via subway and bus services required a comprehensive cyber insurance program, safeguarding the organization from threats like:

  • Ransomware
  • Data breaches
  • Social engineering
  • Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack
  • Insider threats
  • Supply chain vulnerabilities

The client issued a competitive RFP for cyber insurance services. Following an exhaustive, months-long process competing directly with other national brokers, Alliant Cyber was selected.

The organization maintains more than 200 incident response plans and conducts over a dozen incident response tabletop exercises annually. In addition to a comprehensive insurance program, the client sought a fresh approach to deliver a technology- and supply-chain-focused tabletop exercise within an accelerated timeline of approximately one month. Alliant Cyber was engaged to plan, execute and report on an incident response tabletop exercise.

Our Strategic Approach to Improving Cyber Insurance Outcomes

Alliant Cyber leveraged its industry expertise and network of A-rated insurers to successfully place a $50 million cyber insurance program for this first-time buyer, providing enhanced cyber resilience and posture in today’s complex risk environment.

To strengthen the client’s cyber insurance and risk management program, Alliant Cyber additionally conducted an in-depth tabletop planning session and rapidly designed a customized exercise under compressed timelines.

Key elements of the engagement included:

  • Completing document reviews and leading strategy meetings on an accelerated timeline.
  • Significant investment of time across exercise administration, meetings, research, analysis and documentation within short delivery windows.
  • Close collaboration with executive leadership and cross-functional teams spanning security, IT, operations and the security operations center (SOC).
  • Rapidly learning the technical specifications and operational logistics of the client’s contactless fare payment system supporting public transit operations.

Key Cyber Insurance Results and Outcome

By taking a focused, consultative approach to incident preparedness, Alliant Cyber delivered a successful four-hour tabletop exercise conducted onsite. The session had over 40 participants, including internal and external stakeholders involved in the client’s payment and transportation ecosystem.

Following the exercise, Alliant Cyber facilitated a “Lessons Learned” session and delivered a final debrief report containing detailed exercise observations, identified risks and tailored recommendations to strengthen risk management and cybersecurity insurance outcomes.

The client benefited from the rapid delivery of a payment-system-focused exercise aligned with a major operational transition, supporting compliance with a control considered critical by underwriters and insurance carriers.
