Value-Based Healthcare Leader Dr. Tara Lagu Joins Alliant Insurance Services

Bringing more than two decades of experience to drive cost and quality improvements for clients nationwide

IRVINE, CA — Dr. Tara Lagu has joined Alliant Insurance Services as Executive Vice President, Medical Director for the Value-Based Healthcare Solutions (VBHS) team within its Employee Benefits Group. In her role, Dr. Lagu will oversee population health analytics, working directly with executive and clinical leadership to drive performance improvement and change across various program types and clinical settings. Based in Portland, Maine, she will work with clients nationally.

Dr. Lagu’s leadership and more than 20 years of experience will enhance the team’s ability to deliver value-based solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the healthcare industry. VBHS focuses on improving cost and quality outcomes while enabling accountable care organizations (ACOs), Medicare Advantage plans, health systems, and provider practices to thrive in risk-based contracts.

Prior to joining Alliant, Dr. Lagu served as Director and Professor at the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research within Northwestern University’s Institute for Public Health and Medicine. She has worked as a clinical lead for CMS quality metrics, contributing to the development of the Hospital Stars program, and has conducted high-impact research on risk-based government contracts and their influence on care quality and value. Additionally, she has spent 20 years as a practicing hospitalist.

Dr. Lagu earned an MD/MPH from Yale University School of Medicine, completed her residency in General Internal Medicine at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School, and was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Purdue University and is a licensed pharmacist.
