Company Overview

Scott McDonald, Owner, Wallcon, began his journey in construction 35 years ago as a basement wall contractor. For nearly two decades, his business led the industry, holding 95% of the market share. However, when the recession hit in 2008, the industry shifted. Demand for basements collapsed and Wallcon had to adapt quickly to stay competitive.

Wallcon pivoted into slab-on-grade and post-tension concrete foundations, the prevailing method for new homes in Arizona’s Valley. Over the next decade, the company rose to become the largest residential concrete provider in both Phoenix and Tucson, proving that adaptability fuels resilience and growth.

Scott recently was named winner of the Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2025 Pacific Southwest program — the region’s most prestigious business award for original founders, multigenerational family business leaders and transformational CEOs.

The Challenge

Pivoting to concrete was just the start of Wallcon’s evolution. To solve one of builders’ greatest challenges—time—Wallcon launched a ready-mix company to support its jobs and serve outside clients, then expanded into grading, trash hauling, plumbing, framing and door and trim installation. By uniting multiple trades under one roof and creating a central scheduling department to coordinate them, Wallcon provided a comprehensive solution that simplified project delivery and improved efficiency across the board.

The Impact

This integrated approach transformed residential construction timelines. Builders who once spent two to three months framing a home, sometimes extending projects beyond a year, now see homes reach the framing stage in just 15 to 20 days. The result is faster builds, reduced carrying costs for builders facing high interest rates and stronger quality control through collaboration between trades which elevates the overall standard of residential construction.

The Technology

Wallcor is using advanced technologies to transform residential construction. Robotics and AI streamline framing and truss production, allowing wall panels to be built in controlled settings and assembled on-site like toy blocks, eliminating cutting and measuring while reducing cycle time. Robotic systems at the truss plant improve consistency and speed, while GPS-guided paving replaces survey stakes and string lines for quicker, more accurate subdivision work. These innovations reduce labor needs, improve quality and help builders complete homes faster.

The Bigger Picture

Wallcon’s vertically integrated, multi-trade model offers a solution to the issues the construction industry often faces. By combining speed, quality and efficiency under one umbrella, Wallcon is not just building homes—it’s redefining how homes are built.
